In her pre-Hellenic myths, Greek goddess Ge brought forth all life from the darkness and chaos, breathing life and form into all matter. Later, under patriarchal influence, she was simply relegated to the role of mother of the first race of Olympian gods (the Titans), although her status as supreme deity was not lessened. According to Greek mythology, she gave birth to Uranus, the Sky, whom she made her equal. Later Uranus became her husband, and she gave birth to the Titans, (the 15th satellite of planet Saturn is named after them), and the Cyclopes. In an bid to overthrow his father's rule, Cronus (Roman Saturn) severed Uranus' genitals and threw them into the ocean, the alchemy resulting in the birth of Aphrodite.
